CharlotteKitchenTell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Charlotte and I am a California native who now calls the world my home. I know that might sound a little but cliché, but I’ve embarked on a new journey as a digital nomad. I’m traveling around the world, working as a content creator for a variety of online and print publications, as well as my blog, It’s me, Charlotte (itsmecharlotte.com) I am currently in Portland, Oregon. My next stop is Copenhagen, Denmark. And then I’m off to Bali for a few months. From there, I’ll go wherever the wind takes me. Aside from creating visual and written content, I am passionate about living a healthy and balanced lifestyle. I study nutrition and wellness on the side and do a bit of health coaching with clients who are motivated and eager to change their lives through proper nutrition and lifestyle changes.

How long have you been involved in the photography world? What inspired you to start taking photos?

I’ve been taking photos since I first got a point and shoot camera when I was around fifteen years old; I’ve always had an eye for photography. I studied Journalism at the University of Oregon and specialized in Photojournalism and Design. Since I got a DSLR in September of 2013, I’ve taken photo every single day since. I can’t go a day without creating something beautiful. I’ve found my way into a variety of amazing projects such as editorial work, photographing two cookbooks and having my work featured on my favorite online sites such as designlovefest.com.

What about Instagram, how long have you been involved in that community?

I started my Instagram account in August 2014. It has been a crazy intense evolution. I started by sharing healthy meals and since then it has transformed into a mini digital journal that is basically an extension of my blog. I LOVE Instagram.
What’s the coolest thing you’ve learned or done through the Instagram community?

Instagram is truly an incredible platform, that when used intentionally, can connect you with people around the world who share your same passions and interests. The coolest thing that has happened to me through Instagram is meeting digital friends who have become real life friends. I recently traveled to Denmark and used Instagram as a way to connect with people. I met up and developed relationships with people from all over the world—London, Indonesia, Norway, even my home city, San Francisco!

Have any tips for people who want to share their photography or passion on Instagram?

Pick a ‘theme’ of sorts. What’s your interest? Food? Cities? Coffee? Choose something and go with it. And then post consistent high-quality content. Tap into a community you resonate with and start commenting and interacting with other users who share your same interest. Have fun with it. And lastly, always be safe, but be open to taking digital relationships into the real world—a roundabout way of saying, meet up with people!

What’s your favorite thing to photograph?

HANDS DOWN FOOD. I think food is the most beautiful subject in the world. Especially vibrant fruits and vegetables. Also, food doesn’t talk back 😉

What do you like most about photography?

Capturing beautiful moments. Beauty transfixes me. It inspires me.

Who are some photographers that inspire you?

To be honest, I don’t really follow the work of a lot of professional photographers. I kind of just do my own thing. But I do love following instagrammers like Linda Lomelino and Aran Goyoaga.
