Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born in Vietnam, but I call myself a Texan. I live in Austin, Texas and I am a food stylist and also own and operate a catering company called Mission Collective. Food and design are my passions. I try to merge the two in my works as well as pleasures.
I love traveling. Nothing is more satisfying than being lost in a new city while experiencing food, culture and history.
What inspired you to start taking photos?
I photograph things to document and share my point of view. I started taking photos during design school, inspired by the idea of looking at an object in a different light.
Have any tips for people who want to share their photography or passion and gain recognition for it?
Find your niche. From observance people really gravitate towards accounts with specific styles or point of focus. Keep it simple, less is more. Beauty doesn’t have to be masked under layers of filters. And communicate, people really appreciate the interaction.
What’s your favorite thing to photograph?
Food, naturally. Places, spaces, and people.
What do you like most about photography?
The perseverance of a memory. I love that it can capture emotions and evoke emotions.
Who are some photographers that inspire you?
The young guns: Paul Jung and my friend and colleague, Jackie Lee Young. The legends: Helmut Newton, Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier-Bresson.
