Everyone has a unique story to share with the world. This is something we at about.me truly believe and is one of the reasons the platform was created. So while it’s important to have a compelling background to draw people into your page and say a bit about you, your picture can’t tell the whole story. That’s what the biography section is for. After all, you’re the one who knows your story best, you should be the one to tell it.
Sometimes though, it’s hard to know where to start. So we’ve found some great bios to serve as examples. As you’re reading through them, you’ll notice that each person has a unique storytelling style which helps their page stand out. They also, importantly, keep it short and sweet so everyone will take the time to read it.
Personal and Professional
We liked the way Rachel Stanley’s bio because of the way she talked about herself both personally and professionally. It shows different aspects of her life while her writing style also reinforces the impression her picture gives that she’s always on the go.
“PROFESSIONALLY: fast-paced, start-up mentality, go-getter, hunter & closer, persuasive, creative, social-media minded, motivated. Learning from failures and thriving on successes.
PERSONALLY: a little wine, a lot of coffee, movies at home on Friday nights. Runner and traveler.”
Humor and Random Facts
If you’re not quite sure about where to start with your bio, you might try one of the strategies used by both Justin Yeash (our header photo) and Will Rolls above. They both use humor, to poke fun at themselves, and give seemingly random facts that are actually very personal. Will also uses his to direct you to other parts of his page. Have a look:
“Hello. I’m an Englishman living in Hamburg, Germany. My day job is as Planning Director at Grabarz & Partner, where I create advertising with brands such as Volkswagen.
I also do something on Twitter called @madeupstats, and write a blog about Hamburg (link below) – one day I may even get focused enough to be a writer.
Haven’t the faintest idea why you’re here, but hopefully this page will point you in the right direction.”
So go ahead and tell your story, the world is waiting for it.
