Meet four community members who are skilled creatives, data scientists, tea drinkers and food critics. Valeria, Azeem, Maisie and Nick have turned personal passions into thriving careers.

Valeria Aliperta (whose photo heads off this post) is an interpreter and translator of English, Italian, Spanish and French. Outside of translating, Valeria also is a branding expert and her interests include social media, fashion, and communication. Valeria links her SoundCloud to her page to connect people to her music.

Katie Quinn will be the first person to tell you that she loves food. Like really loves food. She believes that food provides a unique perspective into any culture and connects communities and people.

This New York City based food enthusiast loves food so much that she has made a thriving career out of it. Every week she shares her passion for food on her YouTube channel, where she shares recipes, adventures and explorations of new cultures. So far, she’s garnered nearly a half million views.

This top video journalist, and Miami University alum, cut her chops producing, filming and editing videos for NBC’s TODAY.com and as a correspondent with NowThis News. When she’s not recording videos, exploring new restaurants or experimenting with new recipes, you might catch her talking about food on NBC’s Today Show or The Meredith Vieira Show.

We sat down with Katie to learn more about her love of food, her story and how to produce great content for YouTube.

Today Milan, tomorrow Vietnam: A day in the life of a travel writer

Imagine that one day you wake up in Haifa, the next in Acre and the next in Jerusalem and so on. This sounds like a dream for some, maybe a whirlwind vacation for others, but it’s a very real part of Elisa della Barba’s job as a food and travel writer.

While most weeks aren’t as busy as that, her about.me page does list three cities: New York, Barcelona, and Milan.  And though Milan is the city she currently lives in and where she grew up, she’s lived in all three different places and travels to the other two at least once a year.

With such a fascinating job, we decided to interview Elisa to learn more about her, her favorite foods and travel destinations, and get a glimpse at her beautiful travel photography.
